A 70amp one from minispares should do the job. Works a treat for me

I wouldn't want to put an alternator capable of outputting 120 amps anywhere near a mini's loom !

The only part of the loom that an uprated alternator will have any effect on is the link between the alternator and the solenoid. Since a 120 amp alternator won't have a plug in connection that section will have to be re-worked anyway, adding some heavier gauge cable into this section will be easy to do and is all the upgrading required. An alternator doesn't just produce the full amount it is capable of at all times, that's not how electricity works. The alternator produces 14.5 volts and can supply up to 120 amps but if the car can't draw 120 amps it won't deliver that much. The car's systems won't have been changed and will only draw exactly as much power as they used to, the only thing what will draw more power is charging the battery because that will take about as much power as it can get at any given time, until it's full.
