Well folks, i\'ve finally done it!.. I\'ve bought a mini.

Woooo.

On thursday night in a golf course off jct 3 of the M25 i met \'Zub\' (from the forum) and purchased his mini! (i didn\'t pay the amount listed in the classifieds though )

Its a 1981 Mini HL with a 1300GT Metro engine!




Sorry that the pic isn\'t great but its very cold outside so didn\'t put much effort into the taking.

Theres a few things i know i need to sort out :

the choke cable is very poor and needs replacing,
the exhaust blows a bit,
will probably swap the seats out
the bulbs in a few switches are dud
it needs a clean
very slight bubbling of the paint in places

More things will undoubtedly appear for me to sort!

I\'ve declared the engine to the insurers (as its not on the V5) and the other mods and i\'m paying just under 900 (provisional and first car)for it but i\'m 20! so it worked out well.

So there it is. i\'ll take some nicer pics when I can,

make it work, learn a bit, drive it a bit more..

probably swap the seats out.. these i don't think are the car standard ones but they are mini ones and they are pretty knackered!

Like a saddo i'm currently sitting in it typing this..

Is it fitted with disc brakes?

Is it a MG Metro engine or a 1300GT engine?

its got discs on the front, its a 1300gt i do believe, (aren't they from a metro)

And.. heres the engine bay! its not very clean

I just went out for a drive in it, its very fun but man is it weird.

Yea i know that mate, I remember your discription of the mini that you wanted when i first signed up a couple of years back. It was somthing along the lines of "Blue with white stripes"? .

Right.. back again..

And..er i've done nothing since last time! Fail.. Buying a mini and buying insurance used up all the available funds!

Now i've just got a bigger list to do!

As follows:

Buy a new choke cable,
The heater cable doesn't do anything either.. fix that
The heater pipes all leak and have been patched with tape that leaks too.. get new pipe!
Put it on 10s! (the wheels rub like mad and I don't want to cut the arches so am going to just swap down to 10s (i know i'll have to change alot though!)
Get some nicer front seats - the (not original but mini seats) are very knackered and not very comfortable
Fix the glovebox (which has no floor)
The speedo reads very wrong - How do i fix this one?
Fit the ultimate engine steady
Fit new dampers (4 new ones came with the car)

Question - Centre Consoles? do they take up ALOT of room? because it'd be nice to fit the radio into that because its VERY RATTLEY in its current dashboard position. (i've got size 11/12 feet!)

Hopefully i'll get something done of this over the weekend!

An update!

Not done any of the above yet.. except mending the wiper stalk so i can still use the wipers! woo

and.. i've bought 4 5 x 10 cosmics on Ebay which should arrive next Friday! So i'll fit them on the weekend

And.. a big fail.. i bought the mini sport kit for going 12 to 10s (cooper s 7.5 disc brakes) but.. without checking what size my existing disks were.. So wait!... i then checked.. and guess what? they are 7.5!!! ARGH.. but i managed to cancel the order!! Wahey.

wheels should be arriving tomorrow.. Need a new battery had to jump start it to get it going tonight. Boo..
