hi guys which combination with the carbs an manifolds in the pictures would you chose or recomend for speed/performance on a 998 a series with 295 head standard bore size and would be reving to around 5500 to 6500 revs as it would mostly be in second gear.

if thats a hif38 use that rather than the earlier carbs with the external fuel bowls less to go wrong

as for the inlet the alloy one will reaure a lcb exhaust to go with it

have used the later cast manifold as in your picture befroe using the standard down pipe conected to a aftermarket exhaust on a 1330 with a cam and stage 2 head and it produced the second highest bhp on a rolling road day shoot out

you will only get a few horse power more with the alloy inlat and lcb than with the cast one and a desent ehaust system

as the later cast manifold shown is the factory vertion of a lcb as keeps the pipes seperate untill lower down compared to the earlier manifolds

If you are on a budget and the engine needs to look standard then I would use the cast inlet and exhaust from a 1300 Metro/Mini .
You can use the first bit of the Metro downpipes up to the first box and they are a snug fit on the Mini. I have used this set up with the HIF 38 and reved the motor out to 7000rpm so no restrictions in exhaust and the cast lcb is very smooth inside without the rough internal joins of an aftermarket lcb. Sounds just as good as well.
Expensive isn't allways best in my experience.

Go with the alloy inlet and HIF carb. If you haven't got a tubular exhaust - then just cut away the cast inlet from the combined unit - and use the exhaust section only - it's actually quite good! But the main thing is to keep the inlet charge cool - by using the alloy inlet which will NOT pick up heat from the exhaust.
