Well as the topic title says,

We just bought a '77 1100 special wich we want to give a retro rally look.
Now we just love those big reverse lights on the bootlid.

Are there any special lamps for this purpose? Or will a standard Mini front spot light
do the trick? in terms of looks that is...

If anyone can post or link some pictures, that would be great, to see what different
type of lights look like on the car.

Thanks in advance

Sorry can't provide a picture but for the legit period look you'll need a lucas sl576 - Moss flog them (beware not cheap at £90 odd quid) - but have a squint at their ref BHA4399 - SC parts have them too but can't reference there...

Great idea, like to see details like that, takes me back :)
Don't know if you'll attract as much attention as we did then (the police have more to do nowadays). If wired up, it had to be through the reverse light switch and you were only allowed a bulb about the size of a sidelight, and yes, they did have a screwdriver to take your light to bits to check

They are essentially illegal as a reverse lamp, because there are no bulbs made with a low enough power rating that fit the lamp holder (for later cars they are just plain illegal because they are not made and approved as a reverse lamp). The only way now to get one fitted legally is to not have it wired through the reverse switch but rather through a seperate switch with a tell-tale. It can then be classed as a work lamp and it is still illegal to use on the road for reversing or anything else where you aren't actually working at the back of the car.

The flush fitting fog lights as used by the 'works' and private owned rally cars in the 60's and 70's were Lucas part number WFT576. That is not the same as the lamp in the photograph posted.
You can buy a very good new replica from Stafford Vehicle Components, www.s-v-c.co.uk for £65, same part number.
The part number sl576 is the long-range base-mounted spot light version, but plain lens and not suitable as a reverse light.
