Well not quiet sure where to start, started driving tractors about 2 years ago over the farm, we only have vintage tractors and i think theres about 5-6, a few days back i decided it was time to buy myself one so i could try and do a bit of work with it.

the farmer i work with said he had an fordson super major that he got for £550 4 years ago and hasnt done anything to it so i could have it for the same price, i snapped at the chance to own one and we agreed, i had seen it but hadnt really took much notice.

so off we went down the farm.

im afraid i didnt take any pictures of it in it original place of resting, i didnt really think about doing it at the time to be honest.

basically it was in reasonable nick, it had a bonnet, admittedly it was hanging off but it was there, it also had two rear tires that were holding air and one front tire was too, so after a quick tire change (which took about 45 mins in the end lol) it was ready to be towed up to the other feild for working on.

we attatched the chain to another (working) ford super major, and started towing it, this is when we noticed one of the breaks was stuck on, i tried everything but it wouldnt release.

so we set about the job of removing the tire and mudgaurd so i could access the brake housing, got the tire off, nearly got crushed when the jack failed with me next to it, this is why i will now only use good tested jacks :) .

so anyway after giving the pads a tap with a hammer (i know its an awful thing to do) it freed and we resumed towing.

right im going to upload some photos a bit later so then we can get to the pictures and stop hearing all my boring talk. haha

Thanks for reading.

Right i've uploaded some pictures so here they are.

There was a ram on theis side too but i had already removed it as im not keeping the loader.

Posted Image

As shown here the exaust manifold is missing, but i knew we had one lying around :) .

Posted Image

half way through removing the other ram i decided to take a break and take a picture of the injectors and pump, also the radiator cap is missing but that shouldnt be hard to replace.

Posted Image

This shows the bad state of the back, there is a drawbar and pto (powers implements using the tractors power, for any non-tractor people) shaft which is good but its missing the top piece, apparently it was stolen, also the hydrolics are jammed so thats gonna be a big job, and one of the arms is missing, but we have one to fit so it's ok.
Also the seat is pretty bent and so is the steering wheel which once i can get it off is getting replaced.

Posted Image

more of the awsome wheel haha, at this point i'd removed the top part of the accellerator lever (next to steering wheel on right hand side) as it was jammed solid., i finally managed to get it moving and now it's fine.

Posted Image

right at this point i decided i'd start on the exaust which had come off an old jcb which had had a piston leak and sprayed engine oil into it so i had to burn it off by filling it with petrol and lighting it (lots of fun).
Also you can sort of see the massey Fergeson 65 here which i learnt to drive on and was the first tractor i ever used it's is getting it's steering fixed - box, bearings and bushes.

Posted Image

new exuast manifold added and the exaust pipe too, could do with a bit of a paint i think but i will probably do it all in one shot.

Posted Image

this is where the cut off cable had been so i removed it ready for a new one to be put in the propper place :xxx:

Thats all for today i might get round to popping over there later today and getting some more pictures taken and maybe some more work too haha

Thanks for reading

Hey, I like the thread, something different. I've driven one of those too, along with a David Brown a massey 135 and the old grey Fergie that ran on TVO. that was a sweet little tractor.
Youve certainly got plenty of work there. Although not too much body work to repair.

yh the front grills a bit messed up but i dont think any of the picture show it, the painting will probably be the most work, (im no great painter) and the hydrolics might be a bit of work, but it'll be good, and i am planning on using it as a work tractor not a show one so it wont need to be sparkling

thanks for the comment.
