[mini mad john]

Any non-standard parts that might be involved with the problem?
hi guys i have a 1992 mayfair n im running on a mini sport inlet manifold , lcb exhaust manifold , and a straight throught centre exhaust , its been of the road for 3 months to do bits of work here n there , i went to put it throught the mot last week to find it failed on emisions , ive spoken to a few mini owners n they say i could be running on an incorect needle , as far as i no my carb is , 1 1/2" su hs4 , if i was goin to buy a whole new carb , but i was told to post a thread to get any information , if anyone can guide me through on how to solve this problem that would be great , many thanks john

I just spent 20 mins on a long reply and its got lost on here,no time now,main points:-You have a HIF38(1 1/2") carb.Use original needle(in Haynes or somewhere) which will be a bit week with yr mods (just what you want)or even a weeker one. Optimise ign timing.Open valve clearances to 20(to reduce valve overlap)New or good air filter.Put cat back on if it had one and is removed.Get ticket, undo all the unwanted things above and start optimising needle or reprofile yours.Got to go
