like title says...

whats your best tips for fitting a new screen. I have a heated screen for my minus , and i intend to fit it asap. having never done this job before, can it be done solo or is it best to have help?

any tips or instructions for procedure ?

Tips.

Search button, squirty bottle of water, kitchen plastic spatula, lots of swearing.

if your screen seal is old best to buy new as it will be a lot more flexible

As a footnote to the above FAQ, I have since found that "personal lubricant" available in the family planning department of your pharmacy is an excellent lube for installing the windshield seals and locking strip. It is water soluble so it washes off easily and will not damage paint.

That tool looks abit more complicated than what you really need. You can get a simple one with one diamond shaped tip for about a fiver from minisport/minispares etc.

I used silicone lubricant on my windscreens recently and it made it really easy. Comes in a spray can one of the little red tubes, so I just put the tip of the red tube into the locking strip hole and sprayed. This then let the tool slide round with ease.

Just make sure you wipe/wash it off your paint afterwards because silicone can react with recently painted surfaces.

I got my dad to help me fit my new one, it's not as bad as I thought. Took me 2 hours, that includes the old one out and the new one in!!
Just having two people makes it easier

might seem a lot for one job but I've lent mine out a few times without asking for money and have been given more (in total) than the tool cost back!, people are very grateful when they see how easy it is with it esp after struggling with screwdrivers etc etc

i recently re-fitted the windscreen in my mini using one of these tools and i found that for fitting the windscreen it was crap (a small screwdriver did the job 10 times faster). However for refitting the trip is was brilliant, easily the quickest and simplest way of refitting it.

If you were fitting a standard screen I would say have a go as if you balls it up and new screen is only £30 from Minispares. But as it’s a heated jobbie and any chips or cracks could ruin the heating element, I would ring round and get a quote of a local screen fitter. A mate of a mate fitted and sealed my screen for £30 quid and after watching him struggle I felt it was money well spent.
