Could be any number of things - you must go through it systematically. Is there any power at the coil ? Are there any loose/dropped off wires? Are the dizzy cap and/or HT leads soaking wet ? Inside the dizzy - check the points gap - consider fitting new points and condenser and new rotor arm. iF the dizzy cap doesn't look newish - change it too.

you need to give your old topics BUMPS not keep starting new topics!

you need to check your ignition system! make sure theres no excessice wear on the parts, no cracks in the dizzy cap, the rotor arm is in good conditon!

what advice have the mechanics given you so far that you have tried and hasnt worked?

tell us what you have done and we may be able to get you some more pointers!!!!

have you taken the dizzy cap of yet and looked at the rotor arm? for all we know it could just be a snapped rotor arm! you need to tell us what you have actually done!

might save you a fair bit of money!

have you tried a different lead from the coil to the centre of the dizzy cap?

You have to decide whether the fault is in the low tension or high tension circuit.
If there's not enough battery charge to turn the engine follow instructions.
Turn the engine until the contact breaker points are closed.
Disconnect the coil HT lead from the distributor and hold the end approx 1/4 to 1/2 inch away from engine.
With the ignition turned on, use insulated screw driver to open the points.
If this produces a spark, providing the coil HT lead is o.k., the low tension side is working and you should investigate distributor cap, remaining HT leads, plugs and rotor arm. If no spark between coil HT lead and engine the problem is in the LT circuit; check coil supply voltage, feed wire to contact breaker points, contact breaker points, contact breaker point base plate earthing and condenser.
Alternatively, if there's enough battery charge to turn the engine, disconnect coil HT lead, hold lead as previously described and turn engine over. Results interpretation as previously mentioned.
Be careful when opening contact points and holding coil HT lead .... it bites.
Hope this helps.

Also worth check this...
I had the same fault as you have explained the other month on my 92 Sprint, no spark etc....
I checked over with a multimeter and found no voltage to the coil ...traced the wire back and found the connector on the ignition module on the side of the distributor had had water in there for some time and the connector/pins were all corroded.... renewed the module and repaired the harness pins and it was fine after that.
So that may be worth checking ......

Hope you get it sorted :)

I had a problem where my old El Gordo would die for no reason.

Turned out the wire from coil to fuse box was utterly destroyed. Just replaced it with a nice chunky bit of wire, job done.

There should always be 12 volts on the switched supply side, when the ignition is on and either 12 volts (when the points are open) or 0volts (when they're closed) on the contact breaker side. Best check voltage on the contact breakers just incase wire from coil to distributor is open circuit.
Coil primary resistance should be approx 3 Ohms.
