hey everybody! seeing as the forum is working again I thought I'd pop back in.... having Rusty on the road is great this summer I have become more fanatical about minis than I thought possible....(i thought I was already maxed out ) I've driven on a road trip in July to manitoba (16 hours one way... straight through) gone to a couple mini meets. one for classics only and I think 36 showed up so thats quite good considering there isn't even 50 around here.... and another meet that mixed new MINIs and classic minis which was also pretty fun.... I've been quite impressed with Rusty too, for being my first restoration and my first mini I expected alot of problems but the only thing that has gone wrong so far has been the fuel pump went.... best of all, it was in my driveway!
For those of you that don't know I have always loved rally and have big plans to build my 3rd mini into a tsd historic rally car but theres no way I would run Rusty on a true rally for risk of damage.... so instead I settled for rallycross.... I think in the UK you call it autotest.... it's just an autocross on loose gravel and dirt.... it was a blast and I've since become a member of the edmonton rally club and will be rallycrossing every month.
I went out expecting to come dead last (having never done it before) but to my surprise managed to pull second to last place in the front wheel drive class..... would have done better but was running on falken street tyres.... I have a set of camac rally tyres I'm borrowing for this month though.
