I am building up a new motor for the mini.

Has anybody got any advice on what engine stand to buy? I was watching the Mini engine builder DVD and cant really make out how the engine is mounted and what stand Mr Sollis uses.

Any pictures would be a great help, I am guessing you need to drill out some extra mount holes or modify it in some way.

Ive used the second one before, borrowed it off my mates, doesnt half make the job a whole lot easier than struggling on a bench. The bolts supplied with the stand screw into the block itself in holes which are already there so no need to modify the block to locate them, just need to adjust the length of the arms to line up with the correct holes.

One of our members used to manufacture engine stand adaptor plates for the block. These bolted directly on to the alternator mounts and somewhere else very easily rather than messing about with the arms. The adaptor ended in a tube that fitted directly into the cradle of the right make of engine stand and did away with the original top fitting altogether. A search should bring up who it was. This was about three years ago I think so I can't remember a name.

I use a run-o-the-
mill stand with an adapter like Dan states, this allows you to work on both the clutch and timing chain ends without removing it from the stand. I've had this adapter loaded with a complete engine and tranny........... no problem holding the weight.

The benefit of using an adaptor is being able to get the balance of the engine right, so you can easily turn it over...

So, the two alternator bolts are enough to hold the weight of the engine. Fantastic.

I Will get a stand ordered up and have a go at making a plate up. maybe a pm to spitfirebob for some dimensions would be a great help.
