Was a tense drive home in some of the worse rain I've ever driven in. Scary stuffs. But the mini survived the puddles!

last winter I used a tiny bit of anti-freeze sprayed inside the night before. Worked like a charm!

Probably not the best idea as antifreeze is bad for your paint work.
Keep the locks lightly oiled to minimise moisture and then just hold them for a minute.
