I used to work for Kent Cam's (80's)
New & used cams were straightened to 1 thou on the centre bearing's &
centres scraped to one thou on outer bearings
then ground so base of lobe was concentric
both new & used were within 1 thou
measured between centres by hand
if they moved too much during straightening , we put a hammer thru them as they would bend while profiling
new & old were just the same when it come to weakness

Re-profiled lobes have less surface area - so in theory all being equal , will wear quicker

It's the front drivers side and it's been about 10 months since I last replaced that side. What do you mean by hard or not?

Yeah, make your own... its not that hard! I just bought some hardboard of ebay (about £4, £8 postage... probably cheaper to go to b&q)Then some double sided foam for abit of padding, draw around an old door card as a template, cut everything out. The drill holes where you want stitching! Jobs a good'un ;)
