Mine randomly kept cutting out while driving, turned out I had put a cable through the bulk head without a gromit and it had just cut through it and was shorting out haha, worth a check :p

Gasket stripper in Aerosol form is pretty good as a paint stripper (for smal to medium sized bits). I use Ambersil GS5.

Yeah, I didn't know what the problem was but after a bit of searching the internet it turns out water gets down past the windows and onto the runners on the bottom of the glass. I took the window out of the door and the runners literally crumbled off of the glass. The channels were rusted and there was no way the roller was going over it. I replaced the runners on the glass and refitted everything, no new winder mechanism needed and the window is incredibly smooth going up and down. Very...

Hi James. Yup, exactly as you said - rusty channels. You have Mini-telepathy. Couldn't believe the state of them (both sides - had the driver's side done too). Now smooth as anything with plenty of grease. Didn't think I'd have a glass disappearing problem with a manual system (I've dropped a window in my VW by trying to open it when frozen - ouch!) but all sorted.

Good, I'm glad you got them sorted, I wish I did have Mini-telepathy, it would save me a lot of bother when trying to figure out why my wiper blade being replaced has caused the fuel tank to fall out or something equally stupid. But those channels do get in a pretty sorry state.
