Get a passive subwoofer, it's much more flexible.
The difference is that active subwoofers include their own amp, whereas passive subwoofers do not and require an external amp to power them. The industry seems to favour passive over active.

yeh id be more interestin in getting an active one (less things to do)
but where is an ideal place to fit an active because its got built in subs so sticking it in the boot would be worthless

why would it be pointless mate if you went passive way you would put the amp and sub in the boot at the end of the day there the same just comes with there own amp ect

Wether you go active or not, you still use the same amount of RCA's..

Just pop it in the boot just like you would a non active system, the only advantage is because the amp is built inside you'll use less space.

Might be the case on those boxes, but then it would have to go to another sub rather then a component amp, specially if your headunit has its own sub out..

Meh.. i dunno, never seen one in the flesh

Not sure on your unit, but the chances are ones for the rear, ones for the front.

Yea, you just need an RCA splitter, turns one channel into two.. Thats presuming your going to be running more then 2 amps in total.

You'll pick them up on pretty much any car audio site, or e-bay or whatever.

Dude...that's an amp.
You use them for powering speakers. Since that is a monoblock (one channel) then it will be suitable for powering a sub. Match the RMS power to the RMS of the sub (at the right resistance!) and bobs your Uncle.

Car audio identification 101:
Subwoofer
Amp
Tweeter
Woofers with tweeters
Crossover
