on my van....replacing the sills..
ive done one side and primed it then undersealded it,
on the other side my knowledge has grown...
etch primer first:) dohh...
then what you recommend...
underseal the same as other side or black hammerite on top of the primer?

Some type of topcoat is advisable, such as hammerite, or POR 15.
Underseal is generally designed for exposed areas which are likely to get contact from time to time. Sometimes it will flake and hold moisture underneath which is why I err away from using it when I can.
I would go hammerite inside the sill and then waxoyl cavity spray sprayed over the top, and on the outer sill at least on the bottoms you want stonechip and then painted over body colour.
