Hello everyone :)

I don't really know if this topic's been covered before but i would really appreciate if someone could tell me about the available crossflow heads for the A+, advantages and disadvantages of each one and hopefully personal experiences.

Cheers, Makis

Some 35 years ago i was involved in building one of the very first 8 port crossflow heads onto a 1275 S engine - it was the Arden all alloy type - actually supplied by the Works in a private owner assist deal. It had the Sprint cam (but with lobes reversed) and twin 40 webers. It went like sh!t off a shovel - and fantastic torque all the way up the rev band - awesome !

The Arden or one of the twin cams. That's it.

Yes I had forgotten that one, but it's by Mini Sport. Mini Spares make the Arden.

I don't know whether that quite counts as a cross flow in the traditional sense since it still has a siamesed port so the flow in the two centre cylinders won't be straight front to back accross the engine, but I suppose it must since the charge goes in one side and the exhaust comes out the other!

There is one other possibility, the old BMC crossflow unit. You won't find one anywhere though, three were cast and I think I can vaguely remember where all of them are currently. It was quite interesting as it had this huge great tappet chest on top of the head which the inlet ports were extended up through onto the front. A rare thing indeed.

Going to BMH museum tommorow and I will be interested in this little puppy for the water pump that it's inlet is at the front.

not any more! Minisport bought the rights after akm were unable to get the right quality of machining!
