im having a listen too radio 2 while im munching on some lunch, without being contraversial and starting an arguement which leads me too get in trouble again.

charities, should we give too africa etc?

i dont think we should, afterall charity begins at home, now i know you all think im a heartless bar steward now, but we are hardly in a stable financial situation too go giving money away too a continent that, if it didnt fight between itself could be in major financial safety.

opinions...

Charities exist for one thing... to make money.

If we didnt donate to charities what would they do? In example cancer research.

If cancer research found a cure for cancer would they make it public.... no, they make too much money from donations it has shareholders after all (well people like that, in there to make money).

If we stoped donating they would most prob say they found a cure and then close down, their job is done.

charity shops are another one... i known of staff in there seeing someing thats worth a few hundred pounds so they take them home and sell them on ebay.

I dont like giving to charity... as wolfy says it begins at home.

Edit

Speeling mistakes >_<

The charities that send you pens and things through the post... how much does it cost them to do that?
*edit* unless companies donate that sort of thing to the charity?

As many have already said charity starts at home. There are enough kids in this country who don't get 1 decent meal a day, enough family's struggling to pay their bills and keep food on the table and clothes on their backs!
I have only given money to one charity that was christie's due to the fact of they took real good care of one of my friends before he lost his battle with leukaemia.

Giving money to other countries is a joke if you think how many millions have been sent over the years and still they need more and more, I wouldn't be surprised if half of it didn't even make it out of these so called 'charitys' bank accounts

I think people should be able to donate money or items or time and energy to whoever they want to help.

There are certain charities that I donate too, animal cruelty charities such as the RSPCA, PETA and the Dr Hadwen Trust. I am against animal testing so refuse to donate to charities such as Cancer Research and The British Heart Foundation. >_<

We all live on the same planet so, sooner or later, we will have to acknowledge that our destinies are inextricably linked together. If donating a few quid helps people to live productive lives, produce a food surplus, eradicate contagious disease, look after their environment in a sustainable manner; I'd consider it money well invested. It's certainly better than propagating conflicts to the benefit of western arms dealers or allowing faceless multinational businesses to cause environmental disasters because poverty allows a few greedy individuals to seize control of a nation while the populace is too busy just trying to survive.

Suggesting Oxfam shop workers steal donations is libelous and isn't the sort of accusation you should casually make. No doubt it has happened, but the majority of charity workers are decent people interested in doing good despite being paid lower than average wages. But , if you have a surplus item worth a few hundred quid to donate, you can sell it on Ebay yourself and donate the profit.
