Hi

Got my insurance last month but as its a mod'd mini I have to fill out a mod form and send it back. Its a 1275 bored to 1330cc engine and is correct on V5 doc to - I filled all the mod's on the form and sent back.

Just had it returned as I have not put down an engine number which they say they need. My problem is theres no engine number on the block - the plate was gone when I got it.

SO should I just give them any old 1275 A+ engine number (are the specific to every engine) - if not then has anyone got some numbers.

OR

Is there any other place I can look for engine number like V5 or MOT??!!!

When an engine is re-bored then the number should be removed anyway, as the number relates to a specific specification, which no loner matches the physical engine...

Most engine builders will stamp the block with a new engine number ( mainly for warranty and information retention )

If yours has no engine number, then you are completely entitled to make one up.

It does not even need to be stamped into the block, but it helps...

EG when I build an engine which has been machined, it gets a GW cccc nnnnnn engine number where cccc is the CC and nnnnnn is a serial number

Guessworks, How did you get the engine No changed on the V5C? I sent one away once with a similar thing, engine number JE1330 and it was knocked back, cant remember exactly what the letter said.

I just filled in the new engine number and CC and job done...

However if you reduce the CC of an engine they do tend to ask questions, especially if it changes the tax class of a vehicle.

Mmmmm, CC's went up on that one.

Actually that reminds me too. The turbo was 1310cc and listed on my logbook as that, im going to have to have it changed to 1275cc now, so if i send that away with new engine number, hopefully there'll be less questions. JE1275STG4

What happens with regards to the MOT test?

Mine is currently a 1275 spi, if I re-bored it, completely rebuilt the engine, gave it a nice new engine number and converted to carb would it be able to be tested as a carb engine with regards to the MOT emissions?

I remember there's something to do with the age of the engine? Or does it not matter as I'm pretty much creating a new engine?
