Hey all!

Well, this post is coming from the dusty *rubbish* hole that is Kandahar in Afghanistan! Back home, however, I've got a rather poorly Mini that needs a bit of care and attention.

In trying to get the radiator fan fixed, I needed to remove the radiator mounts. That's not gone smoothly so I need to buy some more brackets & torx bolts. :shifty: However, in trying to remove them, I think I've snapped the earth lead that goes from the alternator to the front subframe.

Am I correct in assuming that this will prevent the battery from charging up at all? If so, then that's what I've done wrong!

Secondly, does anyone know the length of the earth lead itself? I've got access to all sorts of electrical terminations so bodging a new one up won't be a problem!

I've not even noticed one of these earth leads on mine. As long the alternator is still earthed - through the brackets onto the engine and then from there to the body everything should still work and charge. In fact I wouldn't have thought an earth from the alternator to the subframe is the best route if you need a separate earth on the alternator. The subframe is not forced to be earthed very well - you'd need another earth from the subframe to the body to be sure. Is yours an MPI and are these a bit different with an extra lead?

Steve
