hi,

i've seen it somewhere on here before, but cant find it again....

which pipes can i vent to fresh air with a small filter on??

any ideas where i can put the expansion tank for my radiator as i'm fitting a flip front so the brace bars have gone in place of it??

any other little tips for tidying the engine bay or tips on a flip front??

cheers,
Frostie

If it's an SPi with an under wing expansion tank then you can try swapping it for the other SPi expansion tank which mounts between the bulkhead and radiator (I don't think there's a difference in capacity), if it's an MPi then make up a bracket.

it's a 1275 carb?? :erm:

i'm only guessing it's an expansion tank by the way.....it's attached to the radiator by a pipe!

sure its not the charcoal canister for the emission control under the wing. Didn't think they fitted expantion tanks on any minis other than the 1996 on MPI's

Heres a pic of me brothers '92 SPI

The white (expansion tank) goes to the top of the radiator.

The black one is part of the fuel system.

Hope this helps

The expansion tank (white one) has nothing to do with the fuel system
its for when the water in your ran expands with heat and cause an overflow
where cars like mine just have a pipe that runs down the side of the radiator to dump the overflow onto the road, the expansion tank just catches that overflow (but still seems to have a pipe to dump water onto the road when that gets full  )
its just to help keep water in your system so that you shouldnt need to refill your radiator as often (at least thats all i can think it will do)

 i'm confused.....i never sed it was anything to do with the fuel system????lol

i was just askin where i could put it because i've had to move it because of the brace bars!!

so, can i just get rid of it and have just the pipe left for the overflow?? or does the system need to be pressurised and thats what the tank does??

Just leave it out and run a hose from the rad neck to just underneath the subframe. If I didn't know it was there, then there must be many others that don't know it either, it realy won't affect the cooling. just make sure the rad is thoroughly back flushed or fit a super two core rad to prevent overheating, which is why the coolant is ejected from the system in the first place.

yes expansion tank does catch water that has expanded in heat, but it also works the opposite way. When your engine cools down the water will be pulled back into your rad. This means less water is dumped and therefore you don't have to refill your rad so much
