Description of problem: Right well me and my dad have just hired an engine hoist thing for the weekend so we can remove the engine! However i have a slight problem. We don't have any brackets or anything to remove the engine. How exactly do you remove it? I've looked in my Haynes manual but it doesn't actually have anything about it (i don't think!) I can see in a picture that he took the rocker cover off and had some sort bracket attached where he looped some rope around it. Is there anyway of doing it without a special bracket or is there anyway we could make something that would suffice? Thanks! Would greatly appreciate a quick reply even if you have a suggestion as we've got to get the engine out this weekend!!

Get some High Tensile rope and go for the wrap-around-jobbie on the crane, I ended up getting some lifting rope from machine mart which worked spot-on aswell, I'll check the length for you....

Tie one end to the clutch slave cylinder mounting and the other end round the waterpump pulley and it comes out fine.

With the servo in place you need to get the engine over to the right and also tilt it upwards on the righthand side.
Like mentioned above just wrap some strong rope round the bellhousing end, and run a loop under the casting the righthand engine mount bracket bolts to, bring the two loops together in roughly the middle.
We actually lifted ours out by hand with a scaffold tube and just lifted (person each end). Do admit used hoist to drop it back in

I ended up getting two 3m lifting ropes as they didnt have any 6m in stock, get a minimum of 5-6m and you be fine.
If you do use two 3m its doable allbiet borderline dangerous if your a health n safety freak kinda person

we just used to lift it out ourselves with a bar and a bit of tow rope.

Will not take long and then allows removal of engine straight up... no dangers of ropes slipping or anything like that...
like this....

Make yourself a bracket from a piece of angle iron, which bolts to the two longer (outer) rocker pedestal studs and then a hole for a D shackle in the middle
Will not take long and then allows removal of engine straight up... no dangers of ropes slipping or anything like that...
like this....
And if you do it like this, and put the angle iron on the right way round, it'll tilt the engine to help it come out!
But I cheated last time I done it, and used some rope and a JCB.
