hi all, I'm currently in the process of rebuilding my 92' SPI engine and was just wondering if anyone could give me an idea of the best modifications to give it. So far I've decided on the following: crankshaft re-grind with lightening and balance and new bearings, new piston rings, minisport camshaft kit, vernier duplex chain timing gears, straight cut drop gears, LCB manifold, K&N induction kit, cylinder head refurb.

If anyone could let me know if these are appropriate or not and if there's anything better i would be grateful!

Also, when rebuilding an SPI, the timing will obviously be reset. Will this mean an ECU reprogram??

cheers. mark

dont bother with the straight cut drops... spend the money on a modified head and sw5 cam.

yes to a central pickup pipe...

Also, when rebuilding an SPI, the timing will obviously be reset. Will this mean an ECU reprogram??

I'm involved with the mighty minis, the spec of the class b cars (supers), allow a number of modifications that will work ok with the standard 1.3i cooper ECU..

altering the timing on a SPi is tricky: you either have to go megajolt, or you can alter the reluctor ring on the flywheel...

fundamentally though, you can mod it as per above, and get a good improvement before going into the cost and hassle of messing with ECUs...
