As a boring old fart myself, I am inclined to agree. I heard the new album for the first time this week :D . Although better than recent efforts, it still ain't a "return to form". :( Sounded a bit like Slayer? :D I ain't going to fork out to see 'em in a big arena. I did that as a kid when they had some passion & energy and I don't want to do it now on the basis of their latest material.

Very true....I was waiting for a personal apology to all their true fans for making such a piece of sh*t album. Never been the same since they got rid of Jason Newsted and the world was forced to listen to Lars crying like a little girl about how much money he's losing due to Napster.

JUJU....don't insult poor Slayer like that!LOL You make Kerry King cry with such comparisons....Booooo

Agreed :) although i haven't listened to the latest one so can't really comment on it.

I never properly "enjoyed" metallica anyway although I listened (and still listen) to the older stuff... I'm more of a fan of Maiden, Priest and Megadeth.

As it goes, Judas Priest are doing a tour ("Priest Feast") supported by Megadeth and Testament so those who appreciate the old school thrash metallica might like to book tickets! They're available now, ordered mine :)

..and I agree with Juju regarding Slayer. Saw them at Download '07, every song sounded the same! Booooring. Anyone can play guitar well. Inventing new music, staying loyal to the fans, staying original & interesting and lasting a few decades takes a wee bit more than "talent" :D

I'm excited for ya too...however if you post up a metallica thread you may get responses like " They are a sellout,overated,egotistical,corperate-metal,plastic,bunch of clowns that should have hung up their spurs after master of puppets". Some peope may say that. Not myself of course. I for one was very impressed when watching some kind of Monster and listened to LArs trash talk Jason Newstead for having an opinion about changing the Metallica "Brand".
I just lost all respect for them after seeing that and reading interviews with the band and how they rubbished Jason. NOt cool.

HAve a good time at the show anyway...maybe they will play some old stuff.
