Hi.

I still have an HIF38 that i want to fit to my E reg Mini city 998.

I am currently running a minispares stage 1 kit on it and have a 1275 head already fitted.

What extra bits will i need to change from the standard carb??

Will i need a new inlet or is the stage one ok even though im using an HS4?

will i need to remove the thick spacer completely or buy a different one?.

Are there any step by step picture guides kicking around or is the Haynes as good as i'm going to get.

Thanks
Dave

I put a HIF 38 on my 998, everything about the engine is standard, standard inlet and exhaust manifold, and it did need a spacer, but only a little one, and it needed like a little metal thing where the speedo ad choke cables go through. I might be able to find a picture of it for you.

Well here is something that might help you:

If it's an HIF that you're planning on fitting (looks like one in the picture?)

You can see the spacer and the little metal thing between the spacer and the carb that the cables go through, not sure what inlet it is though.

Hi,

Your manifold should be fine, the carbs are fairly easily interchangeable.
You will need the heat shield and cable bracket though else you won't be able to attach your throttle or choke cables.

Good luck finding the spacer and heatshield/cable bracket

I can't find them on minispares website and our local mini specialist said they are like rocking horse dropping to get hold of.

But just for info, the HIF38 is just an upgraded HS4 both are 1 1/2" carbs so as long as your manfold as the 4 stud holes should fit fine.

Aaahhh so they do both do they :D, saw the HIf44 spacer but wasn't sure about that figured the spacer for the HIF38 would have a smaller hole in the middle to match the throat on the carb.
