Ok so after Brands i've decided that within the next few years (maybe) i want to get into Mini racing! My dad seems keen too!

Just wondered what information, advice or opinions people had on beginners racing?

Costs

These listed costs are based on the experiences of the drivers already competing in the Championship. This will give you a fair indication as to how much is needed to get started in the first year. However in the year two the cost will be substantially less, as you will not need to build or buy another car, and there is also a very good resale value on a race ready Mighty Mini. Please note these prices do not include the travelling/hotel costs for an individual.

Second hand road going Mini Cooper  £1,000
Race conversion kit  £1,500
Safety clothing, helmet/overalls etc  £600
Trailer (second hand)  £300
MSA race licence and ARDS course  £270
BRSCC membership  £145
Race entry fees 12x £170 approx  £2,040
Championship registration fee  £150
Tyres  £200
Consumables, oil, brake pads etc  £100
Fuel  £150
Contingency budget  £300

Estimated first year budget from 'Class A'  £6,755

For a good starter guide get yourself a copy of Bill Solis's Building, Preparing and Racing Your Mini.....absolutely brilliant, got a copy myself and gives you ideas for road going minis!!!

Thats correct the mini se7ens are not road legal but the mighty minis are 1.3 single point coopers on road legal tyres. I think the idea with the MM is that you could in theory drive your car to the track race it and drive home but it doesnt work like that with all the damage that goes on. The best thing to do is get down to a race meeting and speak to the drivers and teams, If your interested in the se7ens we are down in thruxton in about a month then its rockingham and finally oulton park as the last race of the season, if you are gonna come and have a chat i may be able to get free tickets from people and i know the guy i help will talk till the cows come home about racing and the costs involved. A good way of starting relativley cheap is to buy a ready prepared car they are around 5 grand and then you need your ARDS and finally race fees, the latter can be expensive around 140 a race. If anyone want any info pm me and i will find out what i can.
GET RACING IN THE SE7ENS IS THE BEST BY FAR
Ian
