Well they all use the same basic traction control system now, developed by Mclaren (yet another thing for Ferrari to shout about...apparently it gives Mclaren an advantage!!!) but I just don't see it working for the engines!

F1 is F1 because of everything that makes it up, that's why it's always on primetime weekend afternoon viewing and (supposedly) has teh best of the best drivers/engineers/strategists etc!

Although I do agree with Jammy, seeing the drivers in the exact same car would really let us see who's the best!!

One option they are considering is that the engines would be supplied as kits, for each team to build themselves, under the close eye of the FIA of course.

there's no way each team should use the same engine itll be like giving everyone the same brain
who's the constructors title going to go to the FIA each season?
i'd hate if ferrari quit but if it meant we didnt have to use bmw engines then go for it
stupid rule changes.

IMO its all just to cause a stir. There has been mention of them standardizing the gearboxes, just with interchangeable ratios etc, because essentially there's not innovative differences between the different manufacturers - they all work the same. Tho, i'm not totally convinced myself as im sure some manufacturers can probly build a gearbox better and thus cut their transmission losses.

Theres also been talk of standardizing or fixing the floorpan. Most teams will change theirs from race to race, resulting in massive increases in cost. It would also help to regulate the cars aerodynamic ability's.

I think that they're all just ideas tho, at the end of the day. And if the new rules do their job and help closer racing, then more people will watch and the revenue will increase and then they'll stop having to worry about costs.

You should get a copy of this months Racecar Engineering, theres two great piece's on the 2009 rules and the thinking behind them and the impact they hope to have. Its also written by engineers, so hasnt been dubbed down through the media like most of what you read, so you get a fuller picture.
