Just noticed that I'm leaking a considerable amount of oil from between the block and gearbox. Obviously it's only happening when it's running and warm, but it's a pain.

I only had the engine out of the car and apart less than a week ago! I used hylomar +gasket and had no leaking problems at all, this time I used gasket + silicone gasket sealant and it's shocking!

I really don't fancy pulling the lump AGAIN! Is there something I can smoosh around the join to hold the oil in?

I know it's a bodge!

Did you check the O ring from oil pickup to block?

Yeah changed that, it's leaking at the front of the engine though.

Is there some kind of paste that I can chuck on?

do you mean the front of the engine (timing gear end) or the front of the car? could be the c shaped crank seal if the former.

put in back to front? real bummer the motor will have to come out. or the timing chain and back plate removed so you can try and replace it in sit. ouch.
you could boil up a pair of old socks add a sack of plaster pour that in remove the oil first! :D

Sorry yeah I mean the front as in the front of the car, not the "waterpump end front".

edit: yeah I replaced the half moon seal :D

can you see exactly the point at which the oil leaves the motor?
I had this once oil at the bottom of the box after a long look it was coming out of the bung in the oil gallery running downthe motor.
you dont like the plaster idea?

What did you mean about the plaster?

I couldnt figure out how boiling socks and plaster could do anything but make a huge mess.

Are the bolts tight holding engine/gearbox together! just checking!

EDIT; IF bolts are tight i think it`s engine removal time to be honest!

Yeah, FT.

Might leave it for a bit, and try and see how bad it is before I consider taking it out AGAIN! Although to be fair it is only a days job.

Someone was telling me the other day that you can get an engine oil additive which will seal minor leaks? A bit like the equivelant to Radweld for the cooling system? Anyone heard of it?

True fact, yes. I've seen it in Hellfrauds.

I read the back and it said that it wont affect the engines performance, but I'm not so sure! I don't fancy sticky oil.
