I'm looking to make my own weather shield, has anyone done it? Are there any templates available for one?

This would go down a treat :dontgetit:

to be honest shouldn't be too difficult should it? You could just make it out of acrylic of something?? As-long as you get some templates, if you get them can you tell me please ;D

Thanks very much:D

Dustpan with cut-off handle ;D
Available in all colors & cheap.

Cheers,
Jan

PS: I'm running silicone leads & unworn cap/rotor.
No worries even in heavy storm & 8" water on the road :dontgetit:

That could well be my mission for the weekend.....Just wondered if anyone has done it. Shouldn't be too difficult, should it? I mean it's only a sheet of plastic. I've seen them going for £50 on thiefbay and £22 on Minispares.

An old bloke at work said he had a cover thing which fitted over the dizzy....accurate description.....

Just make sure you get heat resistant plastic or it could be messy !!!

Early minis had sometimes a spacial rubber-cover which fit over the leads & cap + another covering the coil.
Don't know if they fit 'modern' dizzys and if they are still availble...?

I've seen people using a rubber glove and some cable ties.
Well... Not something for Concorso d'Eleganza but pretty clever ;D :P

Heat resistant?
Most plastic will cope with temperatures over 60° :dontgetit:
I've never checked it - but I don't think that there's more than 60° around the engine, where the shield sits, ever

Cheers,
Jan

the ignition shields are complete over kill, all you need is a well placed square of plastic behind the grille ;D

I find the rubber glove over the dizzy works the best! ;D I bought a pack of 4 of those flexible chopping boards from Wilko and cable tied one of them onto the back of the grille! Took a little bit of cutting, but does the job!

Mine still cut out with one of these ignition shields fitted (i was driving rather childishly through puddles though) so its not 100% watertight!

Mine being an 80's model came with a factory fitted small square splash guard that’s mounted to the back of the front pale to cover the dizzy, which seams to work. Although it's the coil I’m having problems with, as even with a length of old door seal attached to the inside lip of the bonnet to try and keep the rain out and stop it rattling, the coil still gets soaked causing all sorts of earthling/misfiring problems.

I’ve got a spare larger weather shield from the later 90’s minis, but I’m looking at using that as a template to make a mush larger one for the project as the inner wings have been removed for the flip front and the engine is more exposed.
