Try 'Quinne direct' online they were the cheapest that I found for learner drivers.

If you can (honestly) say that you'll do less then 15k a year the best deal I ever found
was from Lancaster insurance with the Mini insured as a classic. Found it via Confused.com (which does actually work) !

I also hear a lot of people on this forum talking about Footman James although they were more expensive for me.
Horses for courses...

You could also try asking your parents to insure it as theirs and have you as a named driver.

Best wishes
Monty

Having got a couple of clasics of my own I tried to go down that route for my sons Mini but found its difficult to get learner or new drivers covered on classic vehicle insurance.
The companies usually want either 3-5 years experience or be aged over 21.
The other problem with classic insurance is that you do not accrue no claims discount.

You won't get insurance "cheap" as a 17 year old! :D

Best thing to do really is ring around as many companies as possible, try comparison sites but don't rely on them because they get good quotes for some people but not for others.

Adding your parents to your policy may help, or if they are going to drive the car more than you, put the insurance in their names with you as a named driver. You won't earn NCB this way though. I am 23 with 3yrs NCB and no claims within 3 years, but I still saved 25% on my insurance by adding both my parents (who also have clean licences) to my insurance on my daily driver as named drivers. I am still main driver so it's all legal, but "responsible adults" always help the quote

Don't go looking for a classic policy, best thing to do as a young driver is go with a standard policy, forget agreed valuation on your Mini (you shouldn't be driving something modified / worth too much anyway), and earn some NCB. Then in a year or so you will reap the benefits with cheaper policies

Ooh thanks John! Haha.

And lovies bear in mind, before it starts, that comparing quotes (as Miny's post) is normally useless as no two people will get the same quote. :D

I totaly agree but all of my sons mates that he's suggested to try Quinne for their cars (all makes) have had their best quotes from them.
It's always worth trying them, they really do specialise in learner insurance.

Dont forget though that when you pass your test your premium wil go up It used to go down but insurance companies have now cottoned on to the fact that a recently qualified driver is a much higher risk because he will not have anybody 'sitting' with him.

Be careful with Quinn. They have a habit of rocketing your insurance prices when you pass your test. Although, I was told by them you can be a named driver on a policy even if you drive the car the most.

Adrian Flux were best for me but make sure you ring them, not an online quote.

What ever you do dont get your parents to insure it and be a named driver, If you have a crash the insurance will soon find out and wont pay out (This is if you are using it as the main user). Ive known people do this, live in worcs go to uni in devon have the car in devon, have a bump down there, and then the insurance find out its been used down there as its 100 miles from the home. Plus u dont earn a no claims bonus unless uyou go with direct line.

I went on LV declared alloys, bucket seats on a 1991 998cc £1400 full comp.

Depends where you live, where its parked

People will give you silly quotes like £3000 and stuff tho

Whoever you get your insurance with, please read some of the crash threads on here and insure it properly!! Agreed value.

I try not to be catty on TMF but have you read any of the above posts? :D Agreed value is not an option with most policies for new drivers unless you pay through the teeth, and hopefully Jonny998 is not driving a modified or high value Mini so should not lose out massively because of it.

Sorry, but we already have enough insurance topics on here, please use the search function, or have a look in the FAQ section where we have 2 or 3 insurance topics running continuously.
