Model:Mini 30 1275 engine
Year:1989/1990
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):Right just reconnected my new loom to the engine, everything back in right place(as far as i know!) Turned the key and there is a noise coming from the relay in the top left of the engine as you look at it(drivers side.I believe this to be the starter relay?.The noise is hard to descibe, its not a clicking noise but sounds like when you hit two live wires together, I've checked the connection and its pushed in as far as it goes. Is the relay knackered or does it sound like another problem?

Hope this sounds clear to you all.

on the drivers side there is a connection point with a main feed that goes to the starter. you could check there to see if that is all connected properly. if u take the cover off the relay and try and start it and see if the relay is working.
hope this helps

Right i checked all the connections to see if they were not connected right, then i took the cover off the relay. When i turned the key there was a spark coming from it. I checked the battery to see if it was flat and it was, i was pretty sure that had full charge in it still. So i got the jump leads out and after connecting it i gave it a few minutes then turned the key,the engine started to turn over but won't kick in. Just tried it again this evening and still tries to turn over but as i was doing it this time there was a loud bang, not sure where it came from but assuming it was from the exhaust. Is this just a bacfire or something more serious, the engine has been out for about 5 months and hasn't been turned over for at least 7 or 8 months.

Has anyone any ides what this might be, i've put the battery on charge overnight so won't be doing anything till tomorrow on it now.

it must have been a back fire if
take the air filter off and try and start it with your hand over the air inlet to block some of the air flow and see what happens if no joy get some eaither/easy start and spray that down the air intake and see what happens
have u got new petol or is it old as petrol goes funny after a while and will not start very well if not at all

I bought new petrol as the tank was completely empty. Hopefully it was just a backfire.

I live in Wells
