1993 cooper 1.3 injection.

This came on all of a sudden.
when clutch is depressed it travels about 1/2 an inch then I meet resistance.
pressing the pedal harder it starts to move and kinda creaks with the sound coming from the dash.

then it frees up and gets to the bottom of the travel.

I am suspecting master cyl? or cross rail bush?

can anyone give some advice?

Sounds like the pedal, might just be something trapped under it.

I suspected all of the mechanics that operate the clutch... after investigation, it was found that the slave cyl is making a noise like an arthritic knee.

it is to be replaced.

I see that I have to remove the ECU to get to it.
I hope there are no problems there...I better use my kid gloves!

Hi,
My clutch pedal was sticking, especially when it was right at the top, and wen pressing it back down it was juddering.

I moved the ECU out the way, and could see 2 moving parts, think one was the release bearing, and one was a slave cylinder (not too sure)

A squeeking, clunking noise was coming from them areas, so squirted penetrating oil at them whilst my dad was pressing the clutch in and out, then put my arm underneath and squirted up at them. Now theres no clunking, or squeaking and the pedal is perfect. As soon as I have the time to remove more parts to get my arm in, gonna grease them to try prevent it from reoccuring in the future. Try this first it may work for you too.

You may find the bracket the slave cylinder is bolted to is split, that happend to mine, and the innards of the slave cylinder shot all over the road in the middle of town.
