Valve clearance on modified 1380:
Just checking my valve clearances, some have told me for my 1380 with 286 cam and 1.5 rockers i should be using 0.016", some people have said 0.018". At 16 thou the engine is too quiet in my opinion, with not much tappet "tap". Anyone care to throw their opinion in?

Start at 12 then work up to see what works best.
I think I settled with 14 thou last night on a 296sp cam and 1.3 rockers on a 1293 and now standard valve sizes.

If you are using 1.5's then you clearance needs to increase by a ratio of 1.28:1.5
therefore 18.75 thou should be your optimum valve clearance...

The standard for the 286 is 16 thou, that's using a theoretical rocker ratio of 1.28:1
If you are using 1.5's then you clearance needs to increase by a ratio of 1.28:1.5
therefore 18.75 thou should be your optimum valve clearance...
Thank you Guessworks! will give 18 thou a try tomorrow when the engine has gone cold.
Cheers

Is it the same for 998 engines?
Got a 288 cam with standard rockers.. Any ideas on the gap it needs?
