[b]Model:mayfair
[b]Year:1991
The car I have bought has a 1275 metro engine fitted, this is causing the speed to show wrong on the speedo in the car. Can I put a metro speedo in the car. I am going to buy a dash to put int the car as well so I don't know if this is at all possible

[b]Any non-standard parts that might be involved with the problem? metro engine

In theory yes, it would be fairly complex matching it to the Mini's loom. You can very likely sort it by swapping the speedo drive gear in the gearbox, have a look on Guesswork's site for info on speedos (not the budgie smuggling swimwear).

What ite is guesswork's. It looks like I can send away and have the speedo calibrated for £45 plus tax and delivery which seems pretty good to me, what do you think?

Even to get a speedo recalibrated you'd need to know the turns per mile required which means doing a calculation based on your tyre size and diff ratio. Rover allowed for the various combinations they used with different speedo drive gears in the gearbox. There's every chance you can swap yours to make it read right - it's unlikely you'll be using Metro sized tyres.

Wow that all seems complicated, on the site to have the speedo calibrated you measure distance from centre of hub to the floor, then the distace a wheel covers after 6 full turns, and finalyy how many turns the speedo cable goes through after ? (can't remember this) turns of the wheel. I like the sound of swapping much bette. But how would I know what to swap to. By the way I have 10 inch minilites fitted.
