Primary gear, selector forks?

Have you checked the rod beneath the car where it enters the gearbox? Check the roll pin hasn't come adrift.

This is a very common problem, the cause is the reverse idler bush which has started to walk out the side of the gear...

There is no solution, other than pulling then engine and removing the gear from the gearbox, and pressing the bush back in, or alternatively replacing the two bushes which are in the reverse idler with the better ( older ) single bush.

disconnect the rods from the back of the gearbox and see if the problem goes away...

seen this a number of times being the gear-stick-box needing a clear out and a regrease...

I've got the same problem.
First to second is fine.
Third to Fourth is fine.
Reverse is 'in there somewhere'.
But second to third? No chance - unless you're lucky.

The mini in question has been in storage for eight months.
Which of the possible solutions above should I investigate first?

do the ones which don't involve removing the engine first...

The garage says it'll be the engine removal.
They quoted £1000 to sort the problem.
I think we'll be learning how to remove mini-engines then!
