One of the speakers on the rear shelf of my '96 MPi is now distorting badly and needs to be replaced. I've been looking around for a standard (16.5cm I think) speaker with the three mounting screws, but most seem to come with four screw and I didn't realy want to start butchering the rear shelf. Does anyone know of some good quality replacements that will slot straight in? They need to be 4ohm impedence and capable of handling about 30Wrms per channel. Any advice gratefully received.

These should do the Job:

http://www.pioneer.c...56II/specs.html

Although there are a whole load of them on the main "custom-fit" range page:

Don't think they come with grilles though so it may be worth investigating more. Replaces the rubbish in my sisters Ka with this range and they sound far better than the oem pap.

Hope this helps :)

Many thanks for the advice.

In the end I've decided to go for a set of MTX Audio THX603s (clicky). I understand that it is possible to fit these in the standard Rover speaker grills though it will be necessary to drill extra holes in either the speaker or the parcel shelf to mount them securely. It's a bit of a risk as I haven't heard in operation them nor am I absolutely sure they will fit - I'll let you know in a week or so once they arrive and I've attempted to fit them! Nonetheless, they appear to have a good specification and should be more than adequate for my requirements.

Regards,

Kwack.

I have these and they are more than enough

by the way standerd speakers are 3 bolt and nearly all aftermarket are 4 bolt so either u can drill new holes for them ( like i did) or buy a adapter kit but if u drill it would be wise to use an angled drill (by the way about drilling holes because when u put the old speakers back it will cover the holes)

by the way these are 17cm from halfrauds

I bought some 16.5 JBls from my local motorworld(I did use a disguise!!)

Nearly fitted, just needed a bit of filing, not bad sound and were about £25ish

Well, I've fitted the MTX Audio speakers and I can confirm they do fit snuggly inside the original Mpi speaker grills. I didn't even need to drill any more holes as it was possible to fit them with the original three mounting holes.

And what's more, they sound sssooooooo much better than the originals! There's punchy bass coupled with detailed mid-range and top end. I'm sure they're not the best speaker it's possible to fit in a Mini, but they're an excellent replacement for those wanting to keep the "standard" look.
