I'm after a metro 1275 engine to put in my mini and seen a few that are automatic. I want my mini to stay manual - is it as easy as just buying the metro 1275 engine with an auto gearbox and simply replacing the auto gearbox with a manual gearbox?

That seems too straight forward, is it?

Alas no, the oilways in the block are different so it would require some machining to convert.

It's a fairly straight forward job to convert most A and A+ auto's to manual (all except the very late type A+). You could do it yourself or easily employ a machine shop to make the modifications for you.

All is detailed in this thread from my favourite hang-out ausmini.com :dontgetit:

By the time you have paid for machining work would you not just be better off to buy a manual engine? Plenty of bored out units etc on here from time to time! That way you get manual and fun.... :dontgetit:

And this is completely untrue.... Auto crankshafts are exactly the same as manual....

correct just the torque converter on the end. which prob means the auto crank would be less stressed.
