Hi there,
I have a 1979 mini 1000 which needs some tunning I think. It has been in my garage for a few years and now i have to move it
i want to get it running so I can mot and tax it. The car struggles to start now and i cant tow it to a local garage as it has no area to put a tow rope in. Is there anyone out there who is a mobile mini mechanic.I would like it serviced and amy faults fixed as soon as possible as i have to move it before the 9th december. I live right near heathrow airport (TW19) my email address is: [email protected] many thanks

You can buy a towing eye, or a pair for about £7-8, these replace the front subframe bolts that are in those little holes to each side of the front plate, simplty undo one nut and bolt, withdraw, and insert the towing eye and a new nut and tighten, ten minute job!
I can't help with tuning, too far away.

With a basic toolkit you can tune your mini yourself very easily.
It's an old fashioned and actually very simple engine and there are TONS
of resources on the net to help you.
Also, in the technical section of this forum there is a virtual manual that explains, step by step,
how to do most things.
If the car turns over, has oil, water and petrol you could probably have it running sweetly in a couple
of hours (and save yourself a lot of money).
Then if you can borrow a torque wrench you can change the head gasket (which I would recommend if
it's been sitting for a while) which will make a huge difference.
Have a go...
Or, do a google UK search for "mobile mechanic, TW19"
I found two in Staines, two in Slough and hundreds of others from Twickenham to Chertsey.
Best wishes
