I dont understand how someone feels they have the right to have such a *banana picking* disrespect for someones life!?!?!?!?!

Guy i bought the mini off told me he had completely replaced every bit of the breaks to get it through the mot..

Today my breaks completely failed had to roll to a stop at the same time of avoiding the cars luckily at the time i was taking my friend to mini world so i was 2mins away so i drove at 3-5mph to the garage round the corner and its there now.. aparently he has drilled thru the cable and the car to make the break cables fit

I had my cousin in my car last night, Tom (bondbill2k2) in it the other day and my two brothers in my car sunday what if it happened then???? Could of killed us all.. My nan phoned him up because i was in no state to talk about it and the guy just said..

Sold as seen. (even though he was the one who "fixed" the breaks.. he owns a unit so if he is selling cars in this state i dread to think what he is doing to his customers..)

So at the moment mini is in mini world getting fixed i officially have no working breaks at all guy said he has no idea how much will cost and its just fu**ed basically
Should have her back tomorrow with working breaks but im just extremely angry why he thinks he has the right to bodge the most important part of the car

:P :errr: :errr: :ermm: :dontgetit:    >:D >

Eeek.
Glad you're okay though. It could've turned out a lot worse.

There is no legal standing to sold as seen, consider reporting to tradnig standards, and making a claim through the small claims court, (Citizens advice may be able to advise as to best route).

Generally if a vehicle or item is unfit for use then the buyer is elligible for a refund for the vehicle, or repairs required.

Glad your okay, and have the car being looked after by a specialist, make sure they record all work done, costs, and make sure you get hold of everything they replace or remove, may be useful in making a claim!

How long have you had the car? Things can break or split without warning and without much notice. Before automatically blaming the previous owner have a look at exactly what failed and why.

Scary moment though, having no brakes.

I don't understand, mini brakes are hydraulically operated. Apart from the hand brake - which is mechanical and cable operated.... the handbrake is seperate from the hydraulic system so what cable is the garage talking about? (have i missed something stunningly obvious?)

What exactly has he done?

I don't know if this is a recent purchase but from recent experience the "sold as seen" doesn't mean jack plop

If this was bought from a dealer then the car has to be sold in roadworthy condition. If you have had the car for a while then this is a mute point but for the record "sold as seen" does not mean squat.

If faults aren't mentioned in the ad then you do have recourse. There have been a load of new laws passed recently which really protect the consumer as far as used cars is concerned.

For what its worth.

I can't work out how a cable brought about total brake faliure, mine have faled before, was not fun, especialy as I was flying down a b road, got to a bend braked and nothing, quickly chucked it in second pulled up the hanbrake a little then took the corner on the upper most limit. Tyres were screaching and cars coming the other way were beeping. I know how scary it can be.

Thought that would have been a pleasent experience lol

But seriously, very dangerous, and like you said you had a lot of people in your car before hand, so lucky you were in a safeish place/environment to do it, hope everthing goes ok for you.

I would also like to know the full details on this............no way can drilling through any brake cables (both for handbrake only) cause failure of the main hydraulic braking system on a Mini? Also unless it is an early Mini you have dual circuit brakes which mean total failure or fluid loss is much less likely to happen so at least 2 wheels should still have some braking effort.

Without being a bit more specific about what was wrong I say it's a bit unfair to be slating a company.

And as I said, a master cylinder shows no external signs of wear (though sometimes they can leak), and the seals can just go, meaning the previous owner would have no knowledge of it being a problem.
