So not alot then really. Not enough to warrant choosing a dearer A+ block over an A block. My turbo 1310 was A-series based and never had any issues with the block itself.

You can get brackets for the Alternator holes, dizzy differences can be overcome and clutches are interchangeable anyway. (pre verto is best anyhow :) )

Not really know. Unless you were building an all out power engine I can't see any problem with using the pre A+ block. In fact I think I'm right in saying that the older blocks had more meat between the bores and so took to large overbores better. The distributor can be slightly annoying though as you can't spend £40 on a Metro electronic distributor as it won't fit, but I believe there are kits out there to fit the earlier pre A+ dizzys.

And yes, pre Verto clutches are definitely still the best solution for modified engines IMO.

A blocks are cast of a higher quality material than A+ you notice when machining them.

Just under 5 years behind you guys. Does anyone know if the later style (45D4 distributor for example) can be fitted to a pre A+ block?

You cant fit an A+ dizzy to A-series.

The A-series uses a sleeve type fitting with 2 bolt fixing

the A+ is held by a clamp.

You can buy a A-series dizzy on ebay new for around £50
