Yeah... so regardless of what comes after the C,... the C itself indicates it's of metro origin....

ok... but according to that my 998 engine in my mini (which hasn't been changed) is a metro one. Anyway, as you said it's the C that's important! You therefore have an A+ engine.

No... I didn't say it applied all engine codes. 99HC is a mini code.

I didn't explain fully. It's because there's a C after the 12H that identifies it as being of metro origin. It's not so much the C that indicates it,... it's that there's a 12H before it. :D

unfortunately, I'm going to have to disagree....

The 1275 A+ was used in many cars and not limited to the mini or metro, however 12HC1* engines are normally sourced from Metro's.

The C1L part of the engine indicates what specification the engine is, and in turn what source vehicle... The problem is 12HC1L is not a recognised engine number prefix. It should be Cnn where n are 0-9 numerics, there should be no letter there...

So assuming the L is a typo, you have a few to choose from C10 thru to C19

Im reading the engine number off the V5 to be honest. Where should the number be located on the engine?

Im thinking the engine numbers should be on the right hand side above the temp sender on the little ledge thingy where the cylinder head meets the block.

Im sorry to keep banging on about this. Someone on this forum is selling a Dizzy / Leccy Ignition pack for an A Plus so i need to be sure before i buy it mail order! I'd hate to get stuck with a white elephant!

Well that's an A-series not an A+, and going from the top hose it's a 1275(?)

we really do need a picture of your engine. Does yours have strengthening ribs on the block? And is the alternator mounting bracket in the middle of the block or to the side?

A series

Thanks for the info!

Its a bit of a bummer though to be honest, i would have expected it to be an A+ as thats whats on the V5.

Can an A+ dizzy be made to fit? Its currently got a points based ignition system so im looking to upgrade. What would be my current dizzy if its a standard A Series one?

dude, we can't use that picture of an engine to ID a different one.

As said earlier, to work out if it's an A+ (which i think your engine is) you need to look for strengthening ribs on the block, and the Alternator bracket is on the side of the block on A+.... where as the Aseries has it near the centre of the block.

There were a few different dizzies made depending on the exact engine... so as said... need a picture of your engine.

Thats a bit of a problem as the front panel is in the way, so getting my russian army camera into a meaningful angle is impossible.

Looking at the alternator bracket mounting holes near the middle coreplug, this is identical to what i have in place at present. Therefore if folk are saying mine is an A Series then i will accept that as ive noticed that the A+ engines are further towards the radiator.
