Hello good people, how's life.

Okay 1st off i'm a bit dim so most of my descriptions involve the word thingy and waja-ma-call it. Anyway i'll begin.

I got my little blue 1982 mini. It's rather rusty and failed the MOT spectaularly. So rather than get a mecanice to do all the work on the other bits it failed on i decide i would do it.

A friend of mine said that the master cylinder for the brakes is not working properly. hence the fact my breaks don't relly work. its a type 2 (haynes manuel) i want to know should i get a new one or should i get a repair kit. If the reapir kit can some one tell me whats in the kit. i've looked at the master cylinder and nothing is spurting out when i pust the break pedal.

Another thing there is a sliver pipe on the air filter bit. the pipe go's to either the inlet or exsught manafold. Do i need to replace this pipe becuse mine is attached. it's just kinda falled apart (the pipe that is). On exsught bits how hard is it to repace an exsughts. it's just my front mount on my exsught has fallen apart and needs replaceing. Don't know if the mean the manafold or the pipe.

Let me thingk what else should i ask about............AH!. Right there is a metal beam near the sump pulg. It go's from the sump caseing to the frame thought a rubber bush. my one has snapped. is it an important thing??.

Another thing if i'm putting the car on axel stands were is the best place to put them. i want to hold the whole car up so i need four points. and also what are good jacing points.

Okay Thats all the questions i need to ask. for now. Thanks for any infomation you can give.

And remeber to worship mini!
:worship:

your master cylinder, is it the type with the black tag around it or the yellow one? if it's the black then I have a few in the garage!

i think it may be complet gone becuse when i press the break pedel the is no resistance. Which is rather scary when going down hill.

Right i'll have a look tonight and get back to you prob by about 11.00pm.
Cheers minimadjonesy

Don't muck around with brakes by cheap skating it, its the only thing STOPPING you :saywhat: . Replace the master cylinder and suspecting that you have drums on the front wheels, replace ALL the slave cylinders and a complete set of shoes ALL of the same brand, front and back :gasp: . If your pipes are in good condition you should have very little trouble for some time to come :dontgetit: . Sounds a big job and over the top, but I ended up replacing the whole lot on my 83 mini 10 years ago after chasing a dodgy braking fault for weeks. Do the lot and jobs done Unless there's evidence that some of this has been done. Thats my advice but I'm sure some one will say otherwise :) Don't mess about with your life, replace the whole lot.

As for the metal pipe bit from the exhaust to the air filter, I presume you mean a corugated aluminium tube. This can be purchased from the likes of halfords and will only affect the engine in the winter from cold start, but not drasticaly, you may not even notice a difference.

Do replace the engine tie bar from the gearbox to subframe, also replace the bushes in both this one and the one from the bulkhead ( just below the clutch master cylinder) to the engine this is probibly why the exhaust mount has broken and does the mount look like this(below) attatched to the gearbox, replace it if its broken or broken exhaust will result.

As for jacking, I'd follow the recomendations in the Haynes manual

yo Mini Sprocket,

You solution sounds exspensive. i think i'm gonna have to do the breaks in total but do it in stages. Also I didn't know each wheel had it's own salve cylinder. (sorry not much of a mechanic, i got half an idea and a haynes manuel.)

but replacing all the slave cylinders might fix my problem with the rear breake not working at all.

And yeah it is the corigated pipe. been wondering what that was for for ages.

Also i have no idea what the exhaust mount bracket looks like. been waitng on some axel stands.

Anyway Thanks mini sprocket.
