well I've been praising mini magazine for the last few months and I'm not going to do a U-turn on that BUT....

where on earth did they find that Graham Robson bloke ???????

since he started writing a column for the mag we have had to put up with some minor irritating comments but this month it takes the biscuit.

to cut a long story short, issigonis got it all wrong because of the position of the radiator.

the guy doesn't even know where the rad is, he goes on and on about it being in the inner wheel arch ????????

last time i looked it was definitely well within the main engine bay on the "non wheel arch" side of the inner wing.

why was the mini not made longer and the rad put behind the grille ???, well if it had been the mini would have had different proportions and "may" not have been the success that it was.

what was the brief that mini mag gave this guy? "please write us a monthly article in which you slate the mini over and over again" ????

i understand mini mag will be getting a few changes, lets hope they include getting rid of this pillock.

the guy is a pillock >

Can't say that I've read the article, as I don't read mags... I just look at the pictures  ( then colour them in later )

but thought I'd do a google on his name...

Wonder is this is the same Graham Robson ??

In fact quite a prolific author of classic car reference books.

Did he say why mounting the rad where it is was a bad decision?

How many cars in 1959 had electric fans?

well hes talking about the original design and how issigonis' obsession with the length of the car lead to a "compromise" on the position of the rad.

he belives the rad should have been at the front, he "almost" goes on to suggest that the engine should probably have been in the usual "in line" configuration and that the rubber cone suspension should have been dropped for conventional springs.

there may be a grain of truth in his "opinion" but then the mini would have been just another conventional car and we wouldn't be sitting on this forum right now or reading the magazine that he's featuring in.

never before have i ever known anyone to "miss the point" so much.

John, it probably is the guy who wrote all those books, i just wish he'd have something positive to say about the mini.

you know what they say... is you dont have anything nice to say...... shut up

inneficiant cooling system, radiator clogged up with mud (?????) and noise.

but then he's under some sort of delusion that the rad is actually in the inner wheel arch (durr  )

Graham Robson is an eminent motor historian and ex-rally driver. He is the unsung author of many, many books & articles.

His mini book (his first on this car):

...is a cracking read with some great pics.

ANORAK, just because you have a database of "facts", does not give you the right to be arrogant, rude & resort to personal attacks. If you have a problem with this article, write a letter to Mini Mag, or even write to Graham himself. From personal experience I can tell you that he is more than helpful & more than willing to debate an issue.

just a shame he's a pillock then

i dont think the subject of "issigonis got it wrong" needs debating.

i dont see any cars that graham "Mr Perfect" Robson designed lasting 40 years in production :w00t:

Perhaps the article is a "discussion piece"

Presumably every other transverse, front wheel drive car that followed the Mini is a mistake too :w00t:

"Have you met him?" - think we'd have read about in the papers if Anorak got close enough to the guy.
