Does writing about what is so wonderful about the mini not get boring sometimes?

True, but as we're not in a position to change anything...as it's out of production and we're talking about a 50 year old design, the question has to be asked....does it matter what was wrong?

I do agree with what Anorak says about the shape being out of proportion with mini being longer for the purpose of a front mounted radiator and some other points and I agree with what you say Jammie about us not being in a position to really change anything now and it being a 50 year design,

However sometimes it is nice to read and think about what maybe could have happened if a detail of the design was changed or to talk about the success or failure of decisions that were made rather than read again and again the things about the mini we love which we we all know in our hearts and mind anyway as it is what brought us all together into mini ownership in the first place.

I do agree with you Greasemonkey, I think it would be fascinating to think about what would have happened if small details such as that had been changed...I see another thread coming

I think Anorak's point was more about the accusative tone used in the piece, saying it should have been made differently, rather than what it could have been like if it had been changed!!

There's a mini in one of the latest mags with a different engine in, I forget what engine, anyway the've elongated the front end by 2" and you can tell straight away it just throws the lines of the car. Maybe we've got used to the lines of the classic mini and may not of noticed the 2" if it was there from year 1 ??
Wasn't the clubman a bit of a culture shock when first introduced ??
I suppose if you want to talk motorsport then it may not of been perfect, If it was perfect then Mr Cooper would have had nothing to do. but for the average runabout it was designed for its certainly done alright.

Another thing in this issue - Paul Handford's mighty mini was stolen in Leicestershire, not Manchester.

Pop-corns on the way chaps!!!

I'm pretty much the standard, totally blinkered, can't take any kind of constructive critisiam of the mini type of enthusiast and I to be honest can't remember reading the article either!!

So I can't comment on the real point of the thread, however I am perfectly happy with the Mini the way it and wouldn't want it to be changed either.

(Goes off to adjust the 1" 1/4 carb on the Elf in disgust)
