1989 Mini City E,

I am wanting to rebuild the loom forward of the firewall and relay all my switches. What colour wires do I need as I am away from my mini at uni and want to use orginal wiring colours.

have a look on ebay for a loom or do a search on google there are companys ho can make u a new loom a loot easyer

I know but the reason I own a mini at my age 19, is to learn more about cars so defeats point for me just buying of the shelf if I can do the work myself =) so can anyone help with what colours I need?

There is a helluva lot of different wires in the loom so you'd be best to look at Page 12A.35 in the Haynes Manual to be more specific.

These are the main front lighting wires...

Green
Green/Red
Green/White
Blue/Red
Blue/White
Red

And lots of Black (Earth)

Yes, have a look at the wiring diagrams in a Haynes manual. They are marked with the wire colours.
