Got the 1275 finally out of car and opened up and it looks like the crank is cracked in half between the center main and the number 3 rod. was thinking about ordering a short block preferably 1275-1380 or an engine kit as the block is fine. any leads are appreciated can be private party sale or links to kits from mini engine builders by the way i live in california so i will have to ship it. thanks

If you're looking at importing from the UK, then look at engine builders rather than 'mini parts' suppliers...

MED-Engineering
Morspeed
Swifttune
Bill Richards

Just to name a handful... there are loads

I checked all those engine manufactures, it still seems minisport is by far the cheapest they have a 1380 block cam rods crank pistons bearings oil pump gaskets kit for 800 pounds shipped to california, thats including not having a core. Is there quality really that poor or is it more just because there like the walmart of miniparts so most prefer the smaller guys.

Ive bought myself an engine from there earlier on this year, its a 1293 and i cannot knock there work at all, the engine has been put together well and she runs like a dream, with only ever so slight mods (stage 3 head and CA2 cam) on its getting 83bhp at the fly with 70ft lb.

A mate of mine bought a 1380 off them, and ive been in a few 1380's before and this aint like any others, it just rev's far to easy and just keeps on pulling and pulling all the way up the rev range till you hit the redline. I would deffinantly buy another engine off them thats without a doubt, i was a bit warey at first after i heard people slate them but ive had no problems at all.

roller rocker shafts break under stress, stage 3 heads lose valve seats, in the past they have sold parts that are not compatable,
if you get OE parts of them no problems, I am just slatting their products they make and the fact things take weeks and weeks before they turn up.
I dont buy anything from them couse you can ring and hear that the products in stock and will be sent so you today, take the customers car apart and have to leave it standing around for weeks on end, take grief from the customer couse the cars not done, great service!
if you add it all together I am sure you will get a kit cheaper.

roller rocker shafts break under stress,

Bet this was cause you never fitted spacers under the post's, without them the arm sits too far forward putting pressure on the springs all the time instead of sitting flat meaning that it will put extra strain on the rocker shafts un-0nessecary. It will also mean that it sounded very tappety because the back edge of the arm was clipping agsint the pushrod on full lift
