recently splashed a bit of red-ex in oscar, and I notice a day later that petrol seeps up!!?? my vacuum pipes! Ive got clear pipes on atm, and well frankly gobsmacked that petrol is getting up the pipes? This cant be good for my dizzy or vacuum gauge.

Any ideas whats causing this? Or how to fix it?

Are you 100% sure its petrol?

Is your car servo equipped? I guess so being a 1991 Cooper.

It could be brake fluid or it could more likely be oil vapour from the breather system, as both the breathers and vacuum pipes are linked to the inlet manifold

Yeah its servo'd but the breather system isnt connected. (lil vents installed)

Its deffo pertol, as when I had red ex in it, the liquid was pinkish (same colour as the fuel in the filter)

Bizarre - have to admit I've not had any experience of this happening when I had an A-Series so hopefully someone else can answer the question for you

Just to confirm though, can you see it moving 'up' the pipes when the engine is running? And by 'up', I presume you mean towards the distributor and towards the vacuum gauge, i.e - away from the inlet maniold?

I had that happen to my old 1000cc engine you can buy one way valves from minispares to stop the petrol getting into the servo
but I don't know how to stop it getting into the gauge pipe though sorry.

While the engine is running its drawing towards the manifold. But I dont know about when driving from obv reasons. I dont know but could it be to do with the position of the throttle disk? I ask this because when I take my foot off the gas, the car really slows down, as if the throttle has completly closed. I think this might cause the petrol that was drawn from the jet to go else where. Puzzled.
