Would anyone like to recommend either a good book or website for identifying cooper s engines and their internals.
Or anyone on here fancy having a bash ??

I know there are the three variants 970, 1071 and 1275 but what are the differences between them?
How many of the same parts were used inside each one.

I guess the only really vital parts of concern are the block, crank, conrods and pistons.

Any help appreciated.
Cheers

check out the vizard bible on mini's - how to modify your mini , it gives a good quick guide on what the differences are and i think it may even go into casting No's

970 & 1071 used the same block.

1071 & 1275 used same rods and pistons.

All use different crankshaft.

Cooper S block are very distinguishable from other big bore blocks...

1. They actually look like small bores with only 1 core plug at the number 4 piston end and have tappet chests

2. The don't have the fuel pump hole drilled in the back of the block

3. the usually have a big tang on the back saying 970, 1070 or 1275 ( but early GT blocks also have 1275 on the back too )

The head will either be an AEG casting, or a 12G940, but will have the AEG part number stamped into it.
