Just a couple of quick questions - famous last words I know!

1 - Starter motors - are they the same for both manuals and autos? Mine is a 1275 engine and auto box from a 1984 Metro
2 - My solenoid is dead - where is the best place to buy one from so I don't end up with a dodgy Chinese built one that lasts about 2 weeks?

1984 Mini Mayfair auto by the way

coil- get a lucas gold. most people use them, and they are good value. get from most places, like mini spares, mini sport etc and even from local motor factors.

as for your starter there are two types- pre engaged and inertia- be it on auto or manual. the pre engaged was later (not sure on exact dates) and has a solenoid attached to it. the inertia is the most common, and from how you worded your question I'm guessing yours is inertia.
