Does it only knock once whilst putting the accelerator down? And then nothing again till you take your foot off it?

You NEED to replace your engine tie bar bushes in both the top and bottom ones. This reqires 8 of these http://www.minispare....aspx?pid=38362 On the SPi engines be prepared to get skint knuckles, It's dam tight getting your hands anywhere near the bolt on the bulkhead without removing the brake servo and master cylinder.

I had the stabiliser brushes on the engine mounts replaced in a big service, and then after a big drive 2 weeks ago to Tignes in France (2,000+miles) I noticed the same knocking that Richo described.
I took my Cooper to the London Mini Centre guys and they "diagosed" that the mount/stabiliser bar had actually come away from the bulk head and needed to be re-welded onto it.
I can understand how this might happen, given my car's done 44,000 miles, and I do prefer to drive it at 80-90 miles plus on the Continent etc to keep up with the other traffic, or I'm playing with the trucks in the very slow lane where I don't want to be.
With the engine revving at 4,000 rpm at 90mph, I guess that's quite a bit of vibration the stabilisers are having to manage... :saywhat:
