I am adding one to my estate, but its easy because the battery is under the rear seat and the kill switch can be put on the door pocket with the key inside the door pocket.
You can put it in the boot close to your battery, but its a lump that will get in the way of your luggage.
I think better to mount it under the bonnet near to the starter solenoid, I assume your later than Mk1.
They are ugly things, that need to have the connections insulated, not something I would put on show.

mmmm yes mate... inside somewhere would be nice, saves making a recess for it aswell:)
maybe find where the posative runs down the car to the front, and stick the switch in there, i guess it must run down the drivers side somewhere, maybe i could mount the switch around the drivers seat area... i might have a look tommorow if its dry;)
thanks

There is a contraption which Minispares sell called Dis-car-nect, which costs about a tenner and is a manual immobiliser for the battery... and works by removing a screw-knob and taking it with you.
I've fitted one of these. It took literally 5 minutes to install and works well. I fitted it because I sleep better knowing that the electrics are completely isolated. It adds some security because now you have to break into the boot to hotwire the car but anyone with an adjustable spanner could remove it in a couple of minutes.... and I keep tools in the boot....

I was told to fit mine to the live... but the live ring terminal is a bit loose & a move to the earth would suit me better. I use is as an immobiliser but also to prevent battery drain when not used for a while - I can't find the sourse of the battery drain
